Eight-channel microphone preamplifer with discrete echnology
P8 is equipped with eight identically designed microphone preamplifers. All eight preamps have a discrete design – without ICs, made of individual transistors. This is typical for absolute high-end preamplifers and is one of the main reasons for the outstanding sound.
Besides an analog gain control for adjusting the preamplifcation, each of the eight preamps features an individually switchable phantom power supply (48 V), a PAD switch, a phase inversion function and a switchable analog high-pass filter.
With the optional eight-channel ADAT converter, the purely analog P8 can be digitally connected to an audio interface.
Experience pristine, professional-grade audio capture with the SPL Audio P8 + ADC, designed to deliver crystal-clear sound through its solid-state preamps. Featuring eight XLR analog inputs and comprehensive phantom power support, this compact 1U rack unit ensures seamless integration into any studio setup. Discover how this precision-engineered interface can elevate your recording quality to the next level.
Impressive versatility
The wide range of the Gain control (8dB–62dB) gives you broad latitude when using the P8. It has ample gain to handle low-output passive ribbon mics, yet you can crank down the gain enough to accommodate line-level signals. Each channel of the P8 provides the accoutrement you would expect of a full-featured professional preamp. There’s 48V phantom power for your condenser mics and a 20dB pad to facilitate healthy gain staging. An 80Hz, 6dB/octave highpass filter lets you quickly strip any unwanted/unneeded low-end content from your signals. A polarity reverse switch completes the neat, per-channel quartet of buttons.
ADAT and analog out
The eight mic inputs of the P8 are equipped with rear-panel Neutrik XLRs with gold-plated contacts. Signal transmission is electronically balanced at a nominal level of 0dBu. The P8 outputs eight line-level analog signals via a DB-25 socket on the rear panel. This version of the P8 ships with an eight-channel A/D converter card installed in the second output slot, permitting the P8 to be connected directly to the ADAT inputs of an audio interface. This gives you great flexibility in setting up your downstream routing. You can, for instance, run the analog outs in parallel as a backup or through a different effects chain to another recording device, obviating the need for a signal splitter.
High-performance A/D converter
The P8’s A/D converter module uses the acclaimed AKM AK5538 ADC chip, which converts analog audio with sampling rates of up to 192kHz to deliver highly-detailed digital output via ADAT optical (TOSlink), which offers compatibility with a broad range of audio interfaces. The converter’s ability to operate in single-, double-, or quad-speed modes gives you flexibility in terms of output channel count and sampling rates. Whichever speed mode you use, the P8 will still output eight channels of analog via the DB-25 connector. The A/D converter features word clock I/O and a switch for terminating the clock input, as well as a USB service port for firmware updates (not audio connections).

SPL P8 Features:
For audio professionals who demand uncompromising sound quality and reliable performance, the SPL Audio P8 + ADC is an essential tool for capturing pristine audio with ease and precision. Whether you are tracking multiple instruments in a studio environment or managing complex live sound setups, this audio interface delivers exceptional clarity and control. The P8 + ADC is designed to elevate your recordings by providing transparent preamps and seamless analog-to-digital conversion, ensuring your sonic vision is realized without compromise.
One common challenge in professional audio production is maintaining signal integrity across multiple channels while avoiding unwanted noise or coloration. The SPL Audio P8 + ADC addresses this by incorporating eight solid-state preamps known for their low distortion and high headroom. Solid-state technology means you get a clean, detailed sound that faithfully captures the nuances of every instrument or vocal performance. This clarity translates to better mixes and less time spent fixing issues in post-production, allowing you to focus on creativity rather than troubleshooting.
The interface features eight XLR analog inputs, giving you the flexibility to connect a wide range of microphones and line-level sources simultaneously. This is particularly valuable in scenarios such as recording drum kits, bands, or orchestras, where multiple signals must be captured at once. Additionally, the inclusion of phantom power on all channels means you can confidently use condenser microphones without needing external power supplies, simplifying your setup and reducing cable clutter.
On the output side, the P8 + ADC provides two DB-25 connectors for analog outputs. This professional-grade connection standard supports balanced analog signals, which helps minimize interference and ensures your audio remains clean when routed to mixers, recorders, or other outboard gear. The compact 1U rack space design, with dimensions of 19 inches in width, 9.33 inches in depth, and a height of only 1.75 inches, makes it an ideal choice for both fixed studio racks and mobile rigs where space is at a premium.
Practicality is further enhanced by the P8 + ADC’s sturdy build quality and user-friendly interface. The unit’s straightforward controls and clear layout allow for quick adjustments on the fly, which is crucial during live recording sessions or tight studio schedules. At a price point of ₹265,590, this interface represents a sound investment for studios and professionals seeking high-end performance without the complexity or bulk of larger systems.
Use cases for the SPL Audio P8 + ADC span a broad range of audio environments. In professional studios, it serves as a reliable front end for multitrack recording, delivering transparent sound that engineers trust. Live sound engineers benefit from its robust construction and clean preamps, ensuring every instrument and vocal is captured with clarity. Broadcast facilities and post-production houses also appreciate its accurate analog-to-digital conversion, which preserves the integrity of source material for editing and mixing workflows.
In conclusion, the SPL Audio P8 + ADC is a premium audio interface that combines advanced solid-state preamps, comprehensive connectivity, and a compact form factor to meet the demanding needs of audio professionals. Its ability to deliver clean, detailed recordings across eight channels with phantom power support and professional outputs makes it a versatile and indispensable tool.
