The SGH-6 Shotgun mic capsule is fully compatible with the Zoom H5 and H6 Handy Recorders as well as the Q8 Handy Video Recorder. Zoom’s unique system of interchangeable input capsules allow you to always use the right microphone for the audio recording you’re creating. The capsules snap on in seconds, allowing them to be swapped out as easily as the lens of a camera.
Zoom provides plenty of variety, too: Two different X/Y stereo mics for live music and concert recording, two different mid-side mics (one standard and one shotgun) for film and videography, two types of shotgun mics (one mono and one stereo), even an expander capsule that allows you to connect two additional external microphones or line-level sources.

Amazing piece of technology. Works perfectly as expected. TIP – Shake the hairy windshield after unpacking so it loses all the little loose hair (not a problem after first use)

Very nice mic. A must have when recording sound from one person talking and stereo is not required. Mic I received looks like a new one but some buyer seems to have opened and returned it to seller. Zoom cello tape was missing, box internals broken. I am not returning it as it works perfectly fine.

its okay, probably should have gotten an external mic though.
Bought this mic for field recordings and to better capture sounds outdoors. Although it is very directional it captures a lot of other noise, including behind the recorder/mic. The wind shield is negligible, it captures about as much wind without one. I have had better results with the included XY mic capsule and the wind shield that can be bought separately.
I think i would have had a better go with an external shotgun that allows for greater wind protection and bump resistance and wish i had gone with my gut and spent the extra money to get one, rather than pinching pennies, because i rarely use this mic anymore because it is just not fit for my purpose.

Picks up voice very very clearly at 6 feet or so with a fairly wide “hot” zone
Sound is roughly equivalent to (or better than) most “close” lapel mics without any of the hassle of wiring them or dealing with wireless solutions. Just pop this mic behind the camera and point it at your talent and hit record. I have not yet tried it in windy conditions with the wind sock however indoor tests indicate the sock works wonders with reducing if not eliminated air “rushing” noises. Mic still picks up very clear, studio grade sound.
