A Perfect Jewel
This metronome is gemlike in its perfection. At first hearing I thought the tick-tock would be a nuisance; it’s pretty loud. But when you’re playing along with it you want to be able to hear the beat accentuated above your own sounds. I tried the Wittner MT50 Quartz flashing light time keeper but felt uncoordinated and couldn’t make sense of it. The flashing light was accompanied by a blatant “tock”. The Cherub’s tick-tock sound and swinging pendulum impart a better sense of rhythm. A small push-pull knob on the side can be set to “off” or for a chime to ring at every second, third, fourth or sixth beat. The metronome has a scintillating, high quality appearance. It looks flashier than I thought it would. The tempo calibrations are fine gold lines, visibly shimmering behind the pendulum, which has a brushed chrome slider. It is 8 ½ inches tall, gradually broadening from 1 ¼ X 2 inches at the top to 4 inches square at the bottom. All corners are smooth and rounded. The hard plastic front cover has the look of radiant glass. The basic structure, also a durable plastic, has the look of polished obsidian.I looked at similar wind-up metronomes at a local music store and could find nothing under $70.00. These more expensive devices didn’t look as good as the Cherub. There are ten smooth, short key twists for a cycle of 20 minutes (the key is attached to the unit). I was expecting it to slow down as it neared the end of the cycle, but not so, the tempo is kept at a steady pace until it stops. I’ve been using the metronome for two months, it works perfectly, looks great and I anticipate no problems.During unpacking I found small styrofoam strips attached to the front of pendulum to keep it immobile. These are in sight and can be easily removed by taking off the front cover. But there is a larger piece of styrofoam, out of sight, which is attached to the lower end of the pendulum. The plastic bottom must be taken off to remove this larger styrofoam. The bottom can be squeezed a certain way to pop it loose and this is described in the directions. I had trouble squeezing it loose but there is a small notch for a screw driver and this works to easily pry the bottom off. With a little pressure it pops back on.Whether by notation or by ear, you can’t learn to play music without a metronome

Works perfectly well, we use it regularly for kid’s piano lessons. We also leave it out on the piano with no shame.

Pricey but worth the money. Hope it lasts a few years! Very elegant and works as it should.
