Shape Transients Like Never Before

The first SPL Transient Designer made a sensation when it was released in 1998, but SPL has now raised the ante. The Transient Designer MK2 retains the same Differential Envelope Technology (DET) and 4-channel level-independent processing capabilities as its predecessor while adding a new design and an even more elegant look and feel. The 4mm thick black anodized faceplate, sturdy aluminum-milled knobs, and black powder-coated high-quality steel housing look great on any rack. Neutrik XLR connections with gold-plated contacts on all four channels are installed under the hood, as is electronically balanced signal transmission at a minimal +6dB level. And, as always, only two controls are required to get fantastic outcomes with this excellent instrument.

On the Attack

studio engineers have consistently praised the SPL Transient Designer 4 MK2’s simplicity of use. Attack, one of just two settings required, allowing you to boost or reduce the transient responsiveness of a signal by +/- 15dB. Positive numbers imply increases, whilst negative values suggest reductions. You can bet the snare drums will shatter like you’ve never heard before!

Sculpt the Sustain

The Sustain control extends or shortens a signal’s sustain phase by +/- 24dB. Similarly, positive values lengthen the sustain, while negative ones shorten it. This parameter allows you to specify the amount of rings you want your signal to have.

Process stereo signals

The SPL Transient Designer 4 MK2 also has several handy features. With its Link feature, you may also process stereo signals by joining channels 1+2 or 3+4, with the left channel serving as the master. Other useful controls include an On switch for easy bypassing when comparing processed and unprocessed signals, as well as a Sig (signal) LED that indicates if an input signal is higher than -20dB.

SPL Transient Designer 4 MK2’s Features:

  •  Differential Envelope Technology (DET) processes attack and sustain levels independently, resulting in remarkable transient shaping. • Only two settings are needed: attack and sustain.
  •  The attack alters the transient phase of a signal by +/- 15dB.
  •  Shapes the sustain phase of a signal by +/- 24dB.
  •  On switch enables rapid comparison of treated and raw data.
  •  Link can handle stereo signals from Channels 1+2 or 3+4.
  •  The Signal (Sig) LED indicates an input signal with a level over -20dB.
  •  High-quality steel housing with a black powder coating.
  •  A 4mm thick black anodized aluminum faceplate.
  •  Knobs are made from solid aluminum.
  •  All four channels use Neutrik XLR sockets with gold-plated contacts and balanced signal transmission at +6dB nominal level.
  •  Two channels can be joined to form a stereo pair.
  •  The supply voltage raised to 18V compared to the previous generation.
  •  Significantly increased signal integrity.
