Modern high-gain metal tone with a tight low end – from a pedal the size of a matchbox. The Mooer 016 – Phoenix is a Micro Preamp – a digital recreation of the preamp section of modern, German-designed metal amps. Mooer built it by analysing a real tube amplifier to capture its sound, dynamics and response. It has two channels, a speaker cabinet simulation and two footswitch modes.

Good to know

• Connect the output to a power amp or to your amplifier’s effects return (Mooer suggests a tube amp). Different power amps change the final tone.
• Put drive pedals before the preamp, and modulation, delay and reverb between the preamp output and the power amp or FX return.
• Needs a clean 9V DC centre-negative supply that gives at least 300 mA; Mooer highly recommends its Micro Power. Only the owner’s manual is listed as an accessory.
• To change footswitch mode, hold the footswitch for 2 seconds; the LED button flashes twice to confirm.

Can I plug it into the normal input of my guitar amp?

Mooer designed it to go into a power amp or the effects return of an amp. For recording or PA use, turn the cab simulation on and connect directly.

Can I use it with headphones?

It has no headphone output. Connect it to an audio interface, mixer or powered monitor with the cab sim on.
