Unlock professional-grade analog warmth and punch with the Golden Age Project Pre-73 Premier Microphone Preamp. Designed to replicate the iconic sound of classic 1970s British consoles, it transforms any recording setup by providing up to 80 dB of gain. This allows you to capture even the most delicate microphones, including passive ribbons, without sacrificing clarity or introducing noise.
The Pre-73 Premier’s single-channel solid-state architecture ensures a transparent yet characterful signal path. It includes a comprehensive feature set to tailor your sound precisely: phantom power supports condenser microphones, while the -14 dB output pad prevents clipping when handling high output sources. The polarity switch corrects phase issues instantly, preserving the integrity of multi-mic recordings.
Tonality is enhanced with Golden Age’s proprietary Air EQ circuit, adding selectable 3 dB or 6 dB boosts at 30 kHz to bring out shimmering highs and natural presence. A dual highpass filter selectable at 80 Hz or 200 Hz efficiently reduces unwanted low-frequency rumble and stage noise, keeping your recordings clean and focused.
Connectivity is optimized for versatility. The preamp provides one XLR-1/4″ combo input that supports mic and line-level signals, plus a dedicated 1/4″ Hi-Z input for direct instrument connections. Outputs include both XLR and 1/4″ jacks, facilitating seamless integration with various studio hardware. Additionally, the 1/4″ channel insert allows insertion of external processors for further tonal shaping.
Constructed with UK-made Carnhill transformers and tantalum capacitors in the signal path, the Pre-73 Premier delivers consistent audio quality and durability. Its robust half-rack chassis and external 24 V AC power supply minimize electromagnetic interference, ensuring a pure signal. The unit also supports mounting in the Golden Age Unite Premier rack kit for streamlined studio setups.
Ideal for producers and engineers seeking authentic vintage sound without vintage price or maintenance headaches, this preamp offers both character and control. Its precise gain staging, tonal flexibility, and rugged build make it an essential tool for tracking vocals, acoustic instruments, and electric guitars with clarity and warmth.
Experience the revered sonic signature of classic British preamps, rebuilt with modern reliability and added functionality. The Golden Age Project Pre-73 Premier delivers studio-grade analog richness and professional versatility in a compact, affordable package.
