Capturing immersive, high-fidelity spatial audio has become essential for professionals working in film production, virtual reality, live events, and advanced audio research. The Voyage Audio Spatial Mic Dante is designed to meet this demand by delivering exceptional multi-channel audio capture with unparalleled precision and flexibility. If you require a microphone system that faithfully reproduces complex soundscapes in true surround formats while seamlessly integrating with modern IP networks, this microphone is engineered to exceed those expectations.
Traditional microphones often limit you to mono or stereo capture, which can fall short when trying to recreate an authentic 3D auditory experience. The Spatial Mic Dante solves this by streaming up to eight discrete audio channels over a standard IP network, allowing you to capture unprocessed raw audio or various surround sound formats such as 5.1, 5.1.2, and 7.1 directly from the microphone. This means you can record rich spatial audio with precise channel separation, offering your audience an immersive and realistic sound environment. The inclusion of virtual mic pattern decoding also enables flexible re-creation of microphone patterns in post-production, enhancing creative control without the need for multiple physical microphones.
Connectivity is streamlined with the use of an NE8 FBH-C5 locking EtherCON connector, ensuring a secure and reliable connection even in demanding live or studio environments. The microphone also remains compatible with standard RJ45 connectors, making it versatile and easy to integrate with existing Dante network infrastructures. On the digital side, the Spatial Mic Dante supports sample rates from 44.1 kHz up to a remarkable 192 kHz at 32-bit depth, guaranteeing pristine audio quality with minimal latency and distortion. For interoperability with other professional audio devices, it offers AES67 mode at 48 kHz/32-bit, providing broad compatibility across networked audio systems.
The microphone’s internal DSP is powered by a 32-bit XMOS processor with 16 real-time logical cores, allowing real-time processing of complex spatial audio decoding up to 48 kHz. This advanced digital signal processing ensures that your audio maintains high fidelity regardless of the surround format used. The microphone’s ADC provides a remarkable dynamic range with a signal-to-noise ratio of 78 dB-A and an ultra-low noise floor of 114 dB per channel at 24 bits, allowing you to capture even the most subtle nuances in sound. Its 14 mm prepolarized condenser capsules housed in an aluminum and nylon body ensure durability and consistent performance, with a frequency response spanning the full audible spectrum from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, and a maximum sound pressure level of 136 dB to handle loud environments without distortion.
Physically, the Spatial Mic Dante is compact and lightweight, measuring just 7.65 inches in height and 2.25 inches in diameter, and weighing only 0.86 pounds. This makes it highly portable and easy to position in a variety of recording scenarios. It is powered via standard Power over Ethernet (PoE) compliant with IEEE 802.3 af Class 0, consuming a maximum of 4.8 watts, so it integrates cleanly into modern networked audio setups without the need for additional power supplies. The microphone also operates reliably in ambient temperatures up to 45 degrees Celsius, ensuring stable performance even in challenging environments.
Designed for professional workflows, the Spatial Mic Dante requires a host computer running Dante Controller software for signal routing and offers device control through the Mic Net Control app. It supports managed Gigabit Ethernet switches rated at 1000 Mbps or higher, ensuring stable and efficient data transport. The Spatial Mic Converter plugin is compatible with leading digital audio workstations such as Reaper, Pro Tools Studio/Flex, Cubase Pro, Logic Pro, and Nuendo, enabling seamless integration into your post-production process. Both the plugin and control apps have been tested on macOS 10.11 and Windows 10 or higher, providing a flexible and user-friendly software environment.
Whether you are capturing audio for immersive VR content, producing cinematic surround soundscapes, or conducting detailed acoustic research, the Voyage Audio Spatial Mic Dante offers a professional-grade solution that delivers exceptional spatial accuracy and sound quality. Its network-based streaming capabilities and versatile decoding options empower you to capture and manipulate complex audio environments with ease and precision. Backed by robust construction, advanced DSP technology, and broad software compatibility, this microphone is a confident investment for any audio professional seeking to push the boundaries of spatial audio recording.
