Telefunken M 82 Microphone

M82

The M82 is a robust, end-address microphone that features a large dynamic diaphragm with superb low frequency capabilities. Though it was designed to capture fat and punchy kick drum tones, the two on-board EQ switches make the M82 equally suited for a multitude of sources including vocals, percussion, guitar and bass amplifiers, organ, and brass instruments. Both the KICK EQ and HIGH BOOST switches function independently and give the user the ability to tailor the microphone’s response to the source with ease. The M82 is hand-assembled and tested in our American facility.

For professionals and enthusiasts seeking a microphone that combines robust construction with exceptional sound clarity, the Telefunken M 82 Dynamic Microphone stands out as a premium choice. Whether you are recording vocals, capturing the punch of a kick drum, or amplifying instruments in a live setting, this microphone delivers precision and reliability that meet the demands of high-quality audio production. Its specialized design addresses common challenges in audio capture, making it an essential tool for studios and stages alike.

One of the key advantages of the Telefunken M 82 is its dynamic moving coil capsule measuring 32 mm. This design allows the microphone to handle extremely high sound pressure levels, up to 146 dB without distortion. For the user, this means you can confidently capture loud sources such as drum kits, guitar amplifiers, or brass instruments without worrying about clipping or unwanted distortion. The cardioid polar pattern ensures focused sound pickup from the front while minimizing background noise and feedback, which is particularly valuable in live environments or untreated recording spaces.

The microphone’s frequency response ranges from 25 Hz to 18 kHz within a ±3 dB tolerance, providing a broad and natural sound spectrum. This wide range means you will pick up the full depth and richness of bass frequencies as well as the clarity and brightness of higher tones, essential for capturing the nuances of instruments like kick drums or bass guitars. Moreover, the Telefunken M 82 features on-board EQ switches that further tailor the sound. The Kick EQ cut at 350 Hz reduces muddiness by attenuating problematic mid-bass frequencies, resulting in a cleaner, punchier low end. Simultaneously, the high boost switch increases presence and detail by +6 dB between 6 kHz and 10 kHz, enhancing articulation and adding sparkle to your recordings without the need for additional outboard processing.

With a sensitivity of 1.85 mV/Pa and an output impedance of 250 Ω, the M 82 is compatible with most professional audio interfaces and mixing consoles, ensuring a strong, noise-free signal. Its dimensions of 155 mm in length and 63 mm in diameter make it easy to position in various recording setups while maintaining a solid feel in hand or on a stand. The durable build quality that Telefunken is known for ensures this microphone will withstand the rigors of both studio use and live performances.

The Telefunken M 82 is ideally suited for close-miking instruments that require clarity and impact, such as kick drums, toms, and guitar cabinets. Its ability to handle high SPLs and its tailored EQ options make it a versatile tool for engineers aiming to capture professional-grade sound without extensive post-processing. Whether you are an audio engineer, musician, or live sound technician, this microphone provides the control and quality needed to achieve an excellent sonic result.

In summary, the Telefunken M 82 Dynamic Microphone offers a blend of precision engineering, practical features, and professional sound quality. Its robust capsule, versatile frequency response, and intuitive on-board EQ switches give users the ability to shape sound directly at the source, reducing the need for complex mixing adjustments later. Investing in the M 82 means equipping your setup with a reliable, high-performance microphone that elevates your audio production to a professional level, ensuring your recordings and live sound are always clear, powerful, and true to the source.
