The SPL De-Esser is regarded as an important instrument in many studios, and it is included directly in the SPL Track One MK3 Premium channel strip. It is noted for reducing harsh sibilance from vocalists in a natural, melodic manner, producing transparent results even in severe settings. The SPL De-Esser’s automated threshold-adjusting capability is extremely beneficial. It adjusts for a singer’s shifting distance from the mic by applying de-using even when the signal is lower so that compressing afterward does not pull lower sibilants back up to level.
The Track One’s compressor/limiter is a basic one-knob design that uses temporal constants (including attack and release) that are automatically adjusted to the input signal, enabling simple set-and-forget operation. Pressing the Limiter button activates the compressor’s limiter mode, with the compression knob controlling the threshold. Like the compressor, SPL’s soft limiter is subtle and produces consistent, highly melodic effects. A separate makeup gain knob is included to ensure optimum gain structure in your signal chain.
For optimum studio versatility, get two SPL Track One MK3 Premium channel strips and connect them for stereo compression. You’ll be able to record stunningly wide stereo recordings and achieve real stereo compression with just one set of parameters. Best of all, the EQs will remain separate, allowing you to fine-tune the stereo image by selecting slightly different EQ values for each side.
