  • SPL Des Dual Band De-esser Processing: High and low-frequency de-easing can be operated independently or together.
  • Male/Female Voice Selection: Adjusts the processing to match the kind of voice being recorded, with separate frequency options for male (6.4 kHz) and female (7.6 kHz) voices.
  • Simple Control: There are only two buttons for easy and rapid adjustments: Hi-S for high-frequency sibilance reduction and Lo-S for low-frequency.
  • Auto-Threshold: Automatically adjusts processing to ensure consistent sibilance reduction even when input levels vary.
  • LED Indicators: LED displays indicate the existence of signals and the strength of de-pressing.

SPL Des Dual Band DE-ESSER 500

The SPL DeS 500 Series Dual Band De-Esser Module is placed in a single slot on the 500-series rack module. It offers an alternate method of signal processing that uses phase cancellation to eliminate sibilance. The DeS has two frequency bands that may be utilized alone or together. Two de-esser stages are connected in sequence as separate modules (Lo-S is set first in the chain) to boost processing efficiency while avoiding audible artifacts. Focused processing using high and low bands allows for precise handling of sibilant sounds. Furthermore, input signals are automatically adjusted to provide equal processing, regardless of the distance between the source and the microphone.

Band Connectivity

The SPL DeS extends this principle by employing two frequency bands that may be utilized separately or concurrently. Using two de-esser steps improves effectiveness while reducing audible artifacts. High and low bands provide more accuracy and more concentrated sibilance processing. The input signals are automatically modified to provide consistent processing at all times. A Male / Female mode option adjusts the processor’s frequency response to the usual male and female vocal frequencies.

Both the low and high bands are linked in series as separate modules and may be triggered using the dedicated On/Off switch. The low band is the first in the chain and influences the signal supplied into the high band. In the 1990s, the original SPL De-esser rapidly gained popularity among engineers, producers, and broadcast stations.
