The SPL Crescendo 8 Microphone Preamp has been redesigned with a black front panel and an “8” added to its name. It retains the 120V technology and high-voltage SUPRA op-amps, resulting in a distortion-free dynamic range. The SPL Crescendo 8 is unnoticeable on the signal, amplifying anything without adding any color due to a low THD value. It can achieve high levels with a -10dB VU switch, allowing for monitoring high-level outputs. The SPL Crescendo 8 promises unparalleled clarity and acoustic performance for microphones.
The SPL Crescendo 8 features a black anodized 4mm-thick aluminum front panel with aluminum milling pots. It also has a new powder-coated, high-quality steel casing. Finally, SPL has included an “8” at the end of its name. Aside from these cosmetic adjustments, nothing else has been added or deleted. The same transparency, dynamic range, and unrivaled power of 120V Technology that made mixing and mastering engineers fall in love with the original are still there.
SPL’s 120V Technology focuses on providing the best audio by maximizing power streaming through electrical components. The SPL Crescendo 8 operates on a high DC voltage of 120 volts, which is managed by its unique 120V SUPRA op-amps. The device’s inbuilt toroidal transformers and rectifiers convert AC power from the mains into operational voltage, ensuring all components work within their optimal operating ranges. The insulated toroidal transformer power supply and perfectly matched transistors prevent interference or heat issues, resulting in a realistic sound with increased dynamic range, headroom, and low THD levels.
SPL Audio was founded in Germany in 1983 and has been at the forefront of the professional audio business since then. After creating patented 120V Technology in the 1990s, SPL chose to include this pioneering technology in all of its high-end devices, and its extraordinarily powerful yet transparent sound has garnered many admirers at and beyond. Other groundbreaking developments by SPL include level-independent envelope processing and the use of phase cancellation in auto-dynamic de-users to reduce sibilance.
