Lots of useful features in a compact space
The VT4 is definitely a great tool for any vocal performance, and does a great job with special effects as well. There were several features I didn’t expect but are great to have.- Pitch correction includes minor chords, and it works well in coordination with the vocoding. Being able to set the strength of the pitch correction is definitely a plus, especially when you are playing with glides or other vocal techniques.- Vocoding works well on it’s own, and through USB you can set your own carrier sound.- There’s a noise canceling function for killing feedback loops- There are four variations for things like echo, vocoder, harmony and megaphone- You can run mono out with a dry version of the sound on the other stereo out- You can use this as an audio capture and playback over USB – Harmonizer uses pitch and formant, to give a different feel to your backing vocals.Overall it feels solid, sounds great and has a lot more depth than first glance. The smaller size and lack of a giant blinky green border make this feel more like a real vocal tool.The only thing I wish it had was another audio in for carrier sounds on the vocoder, or for mixing in a stereo mix for things like Karaoke. You CAN get that when using a computer, but I don’t always want to use a computer.

Man bekommt mehr, als man erwartet
Mit dem Voice-Transformer VT4 von Roland bekommt man ein Stimmeneffekt-Gerät, welches mehr bietet, als in der Beschreibung drin steht.Ich hatte mir dieses Gerät aufgrund einiger Youtube-Videos und Beschreibungen gekauft, weil ich hauptsächlich die Vocoder-Effekte für Jingle-Aufnahmen haben wollte. Da ich Roland schon von Synthesizern und einer Groove-Box kannte, war mir fast klar, dass die Soundqualität sehr gut sein würde. Ich bin nicht enttäuscht worden ! Im Gegenteil sind noch andere Effekte, wie Hall, Echo, die einfach zu handhabenden Speicher- und Einstellmöglichkeiten hervorzuheben. Sänger/innen können ihre Stimme perfekt den Anforderungen anpassen. Die Signalstärken sind sehr gut, sodass das VT4 problemlos in vorhandene Gesangs- oder Disco-Anlagen integriert werden können. Wer einfach nur mal “ausprobieren” will, wie seine Stimme mit z.B. dem Vocoder, oder Harmonizer klingt, kann sogar einen Kopfhörer an das VT4 anschliessen und alle Effekte und Einstellungen ausprobieren, ohne eine ganze Musikanlage starten zu müssen. Einzig der hohe Stromverbrauch mit ca. 500mA im Batterie-Betrieb, setzt dem Ganzen vielleicht Grenzen. Das tut dem Spaß aber gewiss keinen Abbruch, da man das VT4 auch mit einer “Power-Bank”, oder über die USB-Buchse eines Rechners betreiben kann. Selbst der Anschluss eines Microphones mit Phantomspeisung (48V schaltbar) wird unterstützt. Soetwas nenn ich gut durchdacht ! Ein stabiles kleines Gehäuse mit Gummifüßen, welches nicht viel Platz weg nimmt, hat an der Oberseite alle wichtigen Bedienelemente, an der Frontseite einen Kopfhöreraus- und einen Microphone-Eingang, alle anderen Aus- und Eingänge befinden sich auf der Rückseite. Die Bedienelemente sind leicht zu bedienen und alle Taster und Schiebepotis, auch wenn Mehrfach-Tastendruck erforderlich ist, sind mit einer Hand zu erreichen. Das Ganze macht einen wertigen und robusten Eindruck.Noch zu Erwähnen ist die Microphone-Kombibuchse auf der Rückseite. Dort kann man ein Mic mit XLR- oder auch Klinkenstecker anschliessen. Ich befeuere diesen Eingang mit einem Line-Signal aus meinem Mischpult und hab die Empfindlichkeit des Signals am VT4 so eingestellt, dass die Peak-Anzeige nicht aufleuchtet.Eine ausreichende mehrsprachige Bedienanleitung in Papierform liegt dem Gerät bei, die man auch unbedingt vor Gebrauch lesen sollte. Dort sind nämlich auch die Funktionen erläutert, die nicht so offensichtlich sind und die man nicht täglich benötigt.Soviel Effekt und Klangqualität für diesen Preis bekommt man nicht bei allen Herstellern.
