The Marshall MG30GFX is a 30-watt, 1×10-inch combo amplifier that provides a big sound in a compact design. Perfect for players who need more power and versatility than a basic practice amp, the MG30GFX offers clean, crunch, and overdrive tones alongside a range of built-in digital effects. With its intuitive controls, this amp is suited for both practice and small performances, letting you explore a wide variety of sounds without the need for external pedals.

Key Features

  • 30 Watts of Power: The 30-watt output is powerful enough for small gigs and rehearsals while still being manageable for home practice.
  • 10″ Custom Speaker: A custom 10-inch speaker provides a rich, balanced sound that enhances your playing, from crisp cleans to warm overdrive.
  • Four Channels (Clean, Crunch, Overdrive 1, Overdrive 2): Explore a range of tonal options with channels for clean, crunch, and two overdrive modes, allowing for genres from blues and jazz to hard rock and metal.
  • Built-In Digital Effects: Access reverb, delay, chorus, and phaser effects to add depth and texture to your sound, with no need for external gear.
  • 3-Band EQ (Bass, Mid, Treble): Customize your tone with the 3-band EQ, adjusting bass, mid, and treble to find your perfect sound.
  • Tap Tempo Function: Control the timing of delay effects with the tap tempo button, syncing the delay to match your rhythm.
  • Emulated Headphone Output: Practice silently with the emulated output, which provides Marshall’s signature sound directly to your headphones—ideal for late-night practice.
  • AUX Input: Play along with backing tracks by connecting an external device to the AUX input, making practice more engaging and interactive.

Sound and Performance

The MG30GFX stands out for its range of sounds and effects, all accessible through an easy-to-use control panel. The clean channel offers a bright, clear sound that suits genres like pop, jazz, and blues. Switch to crunch for a bit of grit, or dive into Overdrive 1 and 2 for saturated, powerful tones perfect for rock and metal. This four-channel setup allows you to switch between sounds seamlessly, creating dynamic performances or varied practice sessions.

The built-in digital effects provide a range of sonic options. Reverb adds spaciousness to your sound, delay provides an echo effect, chorus adds richness, and phaser introduces a sweeping, modulated effect. These effects, combined with the 3-band EQ, offer excellent versatility for a wide range of styles and make the MG30GFX a great all-in-one option for guitarists who want to experiment with different tones.

Design and Build

Marshall has crafted the MG30GFX with both durability and style in mind. The amp features Marshall’s classic black tolex with gold accents, and the control panel is straightforward, allowing for quick adjustments on the fly. The amp’s build quality ensures it will stand up to the rigors of frequent use, whether in practice or on stage.

Usage Scenarios

Home Practice: The 30-watt power is versatile enough for practicing at home, with the option to use the headphone output for quiet sessions.

Rehearsals and Small Gigs: The power and range of effects make it a suitable choice for small performances or band rehearsals, especially in smaller venues.

Tone Experimentation: With four channels and built-in effects, the MG30GFX is perfect for players who want to explore various sounds without relying on multiple pedals.

Recording: The emulated output provides a direct line to recording devices, making it easy to capture Marshall’s tone for demos or home recording projects.

    Nice Little Practice Amp
I’ve had a lot of free time at home because I’m recovering from an accident, so I thought I’d pick up my guitars, which I haven’t really had time for over the last several years. I wasn’t happy with my old Line 6 amp, and wanted to upgrade, but I’m also not playing with anyone else, or planning on performing live, so I didn’t want to break the bank. This was a perfect option. You get the quality of a Marshall with tons of sounds options, and you cannot beat the price. I recommend getting the pedal that allows you to switch between overdrive options without having to use your hands. Really helps when playing something that goes from clean to distorted, solos, etc. You can program it to your liking, or stick with the stock options they load into the amp. Takes a little work to get the sounds the way I like them, and I’m still experimenting with the delay options and stuff, but I highly recommend this if you’re looking for a practice amp. It would also work for smaller live performances, especially if you mic it into a house system.

    A great practice amp
I purchased this amp as I wasn’t happy with the tones I was getting out of my Fender Mustang amp. I am very pleased with the tone and the effects. I don’t use effects pedals so can’t comment on how well they would work, but I would certainly recommend it as a starter amp.

A Christmas gift for my husband.
Husband loves it. As a novice guitar player this amp is perfect. Just the right size to move around the house, carry on to the back patio or take to a friend’s house for a jam session. The price point was good too. Great sound for the size. He will get years of enjoyment.

  6. Jonathan M. Oller Jr.

Awesome all-around amp. Loud and had crunchier Overdrive
The media could not be loaded.

Never owned a Marshall amp before. This one took the crown for affordability and excellent sound. Most of the effects you need are there and jammed along with a toggle switch for 2 Overdrive sound and 1 Gain sound fx.

  7. Dave Lévesque
