I have had these headphones for more than 3 months now.Accessories are excellent. Two set of cables and pads included. Box for storing the headphones are sturdy and build well. The headphone itself is build like a tank and very comfortable to wear for long listening sessions. I hope replacement pads are available easily in the future.Coming to the sound signature. Some consider the Beyerdynamics to be quite bright and not suitable for folks who might be treble sensitive, I do not have any such problem. I like neutral or neutral bright tuning. As my preferences have changed over time, I find the stock tuning to be somewhat bassy. Bass heads will probably like the default bass tuning. However, these headphones take equalization amazingly well. Equalizing them to 5128 target using AutoEq make them sound lovely.Worth the prize and very happy with the purchase.

Was für ein Feuerwerk an Schallwellen …
Vorweg: Bevor ich diese Kopfhörer behalten habe, wurden der DT 770 Edition, DT 880 Special Edition, DT 990, DT 990 Pro, DT 1770 Pro, Sennheiser HD 650, Sennheiser HD 660s, Teufel Real Z, Teufel Real Pure und Teufel Real Blue NC zum Vergleich herangezogen.Ich bin nun seit ca. 9 Wochen auf der Suche nach einem neuen Kopfhörer, weil meine alten Teufel Real Z so langsam auseinanderfallen und es null Ersatzteile dafür gibt. Bis vor 4 Wochen bin ich davon ausgegangen, dass ich mit den Teufel Real Z ein gutes Stück Audiotechnik verwende, aber dazu später etwas mehr.Bevor der erste Kauf getätigt wurde, habe ich knapp 5 Wochen mit der Recherche verbracht, welche Kopfhörer für mich in Frage kommen könnten. Naheliegend war für mich der Griff zum indirekten Nachfolger meiner Teufel Real Z, den Teufel Real Pure. Ich bin aber auch auf den Sennheiser HD 650 und den Beyerdynamic 1990 Pro aufmerksam geworden.Zuerst kamen die Teufel Real Pure an, aber leider wurde ich hier schon direkt beim Auspacken abgeschreckt. Die Kopfhörer riechen stark nach billigem Kunststoff und das auch nach 4 Wochen noch. Klanglich würde ich die Real Pure, meiner Meinung nach, unter die Real Z setzen. Hier hat also eher ein Downgrade stattgefunden und ich war das erste Mal wirklich enttäuscht von Teufel.Als zweites kamen die Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro bei mir an. Allein beim Auspacken, merkte man schon die knapp 350 Euro unterschied zum Teufel Real Pure. Die Materialien und die Verarbeitung sind erste Klasse. Beim Testhören merkte ich dann aber schnell, dass zwischen 7000 Hz und 8000 Hz etwas mehr abgeht, als dies meinen Ohren guttat. S-Laute waren hier sehr scharfe Z-Laute, dies war wirklich etwas anstrengend. Aber abgesehen davon, klingen diese Kopfhörer wie aus einer anderen Welt für mich. Mein bisher so hochgelobter Teufel Real Z sah plötzlich kein Land mehr und wirkte eher wie ein Spielzeug-Kopfhörer, damit habe ich so nicht gerechnet.Als drittes traf bei mir dann der Beyerdynamic DT 880 Black Special Edition ein. Das Problem mit den S-Lauten tritt bei diesem nicht so stark auf aber dafür klingt der Rest etwas leblos. Versteht mich nicht falsch, hätte ich diese vor den DT 1990 Pro probegehört, wären diese im Vergleich zu beiden Teufel Real Kopfhörern ebenfalls in einer ganz anderen Liga gewesen. Aber hier hat nun der DT 1990 Pro dem DT 880 Black Special Edition etwas die Show gestohlen.Bei einem Freund habe ich dann noch die Beyerdynamic DT 770 Edition testen können und kam hier zu dem Fazit, S-Laute hören sich sehr schön und weich an, dafür ist der restliche Klang aber etwas dumpf und es fehlt ihm dieses gewisse Etwas an Klarheit, wie es der Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro hat.In einem Elektrofachgeschäft konnte ich dann noch einige Sennheiser Kopfhörer testen, unter anderem den HD 599 und den HD 600. Aber beide brachten mir nicht die geforderte Lebendigkeit und geforderten Details in meine Lieblingslieder. Etwas später hatte ich mir auch den Sennheiser HD 650 dort anhören können, welcher mir sehr gefiel, was die Gesangsdarstellung angeht. Leider gerieten hier aber einige Details, der Lieder, in den Hintergrund. Ich konnte dann ebenfalls auch noch die die Beyerdynamic DT 990, DT 990 Pro und DT 1770 Pro testen. Beim DT 990 Pro war wieder eine schöne Abbildung der Details zu hören. Der DT 1770 Pro erinnerte schon sehr an den DT 1990 Pro, war mir aber etwas dumpf in den Mitten und bedingt durch die geschlossene Bauweise, wurde es schnell warm an den Ohren.Der letzte Kopfhörer, der bei mir zu Hause eintraf, war der Sennheiser HD 660s, welchen ich mir wegen der guten Stimmdarstellung der HD 650 bestellt hatte. Ich hatte mir hier erhofft, dass hier mehr Details als beim HD 650 herauszuholen sind, aber leider fiel die Detaildarstellung auch beim 660s im Vergleich zum DT 990 Pro und vor allem zum DT 1990 Pro in Verzug und für den Preis war mir letztendlich auch zu viel Kunststoff am Kopfhörer.Nun schwankte ich also zwischen drei Kopfhörern: Beyerdynamic DT 880 Black Special Edition, DT 1990 Pro und dem Sennheiser HD 660s. Der DT 880 hat ein recht weiches Klangbild, gibt aber dennoch genug Details wieder, war aber irgendwie etwas leblos. Der DT 1990 Pro war fast perfekt, die Mitten gefallen mir und er kommt im Tiefbereich gut runter. Leider klingt er aber im Bereich von 7000 bis 8000 Hz sehr spitz, was fast jeden S-Laut zu einem Z-Laut macht und wehtut. Dann war da auch noch der HD 660s, der Gesang so schön rüberbringen kann aber etwas an Details und Materialwertigkeit vermissen lässt.Am liebsten hätte ich aus den drei Kopfhörern, frankensteinmäßig, einen Einzigen zusammenbauen wollen. Ein Kopfhörer der so detailreich wie der DT 1990 ist, aber S-Laute, wie beim DT 880 abspielt und bei Gesang so auftrumpfen kann, wie der HD 660s. Da ich nicht weiß, wie ich das machen könnte und nun einen baldigen Abschluss meiner Kopfhörer-Suche anstrebte, musste ein Kompromiss her, mit dem ich gut leben kann – Der Zauberspruch war für mich dabei „Equalizer APO“.Ich habe mit dem Programm „Equalizer APO“ alle drei Kopfhörer, so gut es mir möglich war, klanglich angepasst und musste beim DT 1990 Pro die geringsten Anpassungen machen. Ich habe den Frequenzbereich von ca. 7200 Hz bis 11000 Hz etwas abgesenkt und den Mittenbereich von 1500 Hz bis etwa 4000 Hz etwas nach oben gezogen. Und et voilà , mit dem Ergebnis war ich nun mehr als zufrieden.Rückblickend kann ich mich vor allem nur sehr darüber wundern, wie ich die Teufel Real Z einst so gut finden konnte. Selbst ein 150 Euro teurer Beyerdynamic-Kopfhörer klingt schon deutlich besser als die Real Z, die mich knapp 153 Euro gekostet haben. Den Teufel Real Z und noch mehr den Real Pure/Blue/Blue NC fehlt es komplett an der Darstellung von Details. Kommen viele Instrumente und Klänge in einem Lied gesammelt vor, verschwimmt alles in einem Brei. Die DT 1990 Pro und DT 880 Special Edition lassen hier so viel entdecken, was ich zuvor so nicht hören konnte. Ein Grund, weswegen ich mich aber auch gegen die DT 880 entschieden habe ist der, dass man das Kabel nicht tauschen kann und das die 250 Ohm beim DT 880 höher zum Tragen kommen, als beim DT 1990 Pro. Die Tesla Treiber im DT 1990 Pro erlauben es, das sich 250 Ohm schätzungsweise wie 150 Ohm-Kopfhörer verhalten – Zumindest von der Verstärkerleistung an meinem Audio-Interface her.- – – – – – – – – – -Viel Text, kurzes Fazit: Mit leichten Frequenzanpassungen, per „Equalizer APO“, sind die Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro genau das, was ich nun von guten Kopfhörern mindestens erwarte. Der Beyerdynamic DT 880 ist zu wenig lebhaft und dem Sennheiser HD 660s fehlt es meiner Meinung nach an Details, die ich auch mit „Equalizer APO“ nicht so rausholen konnte, wie beim Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro. Wichtiges Detail, die Beyerdynamic DT 1990 sind etwas schwerer als “Artverwandte” Kopfhörer und dies könnte eventuell dem einen oder anderen stören, bei mir kann ich auch nach 6 Stunden tragen nicht klagen – Sitzen für mich sehr gut.Beyerdynamic DT 880 / DT 990 – Für Preisbewusste Musikliebhaber, die etwas neues in ihren Liedern entdecken wollenSennheiser HD 650/660s – Für entspannten Musikgenuss, mit sehr schöner Gesangsdarstellung der etwas höheres PreisklasseBeyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro – Für Musikliebhaber, die vor allem auch nach den kleinsten Details Ausschau halten und die höhere Preisklasse akzeptieren (aber nur mit Anpassung der spitzen Höhen, ohne Anpassung etwas anstrengend)

I own Beyerdynamic dt990 600ohms, Amiron Homes, Sennheiser HD 560s, and Sennheiser HD650s. The DT1990s are my favorite of the bunch (right next to HD650- different sound signature but both are amazing), with Amirons being my least favorite BY FAR which is funny because they use the same drivers as the DT1990s but sound awful.These things are built like a tank. Very sturdy and substantial feeling. Not too heavy on the head. Earcups are big enough for me and significantly deeper than the DT990 earcups. Almost as comfortable as my HD650 (better shaped earcups, lighter.)TREBLE:Okay, this is what many people worry about when they buy Beyerdynamic headphones. The treble on these headphones with the balanced pads is…. nice. It’s present and a little bit forward, but not in the tinny way that it is on the dt990 or the DISGUSTINGLY loud and annoying way it is on the Amiron Homes. It’s fast, and though frequency charts will show the huge 8k peak, it doesn’t bother me. I’m fairly treble sensitive, and I hardly ever come across a song that bothers me with the DT1990. I think the treble is pleasantly clear. Sometimes, on songs like exchange by bryson tiller or excited by trippie redd, those high hats can be a little hot, but they’re far more tolerable than the other Beyers I own. It’s like they come close to that threshold of unpleasantness, but never cross it. It’s almost perfect.Mids:Fantastic. not sucked out and lifeless like on the Amiron Homes or recessed like they are on the DT990 600ohm. The mids are clear and present. There is substance and flavor in the mids.Bass:Best bass of all the headphones I own. Tight and punchy, deep. Just really a good time overall.TLDR;Fantastic bass and mids.Great treble.Comfortable.Built like a tank.A good contrast to something like an HD650.Sometimes, high hats can come in hot, but I wouldn’t call it a real issue.Stellar headphones overall and I don’t regret buying them for over half a grand which is the most important takeaway from all of this.UPDATE 02-23-2022I’ve purchased the HIFIMAN Sundara since obtaining the DT1990, and it isn’t nearly as exciting to listen to. I still love the DT1990s and use them over everything else daily. I’ve probably put hundreds or maybe even thousands of hours on these things since I got them, and they’re just fantastic. No build quality issues or driver issues. They’re built very well. At first, I preferred the analytical pads, as they’re softer and more comfortable. But, they take a way a lot of the bass, and I do enjoy my fair share of bass. So, I swapped the B pads back on, and I wore them in for a few days. This has become the way I prefer the headphones configured. Really nice, strong bass. Great mids. Very clear treble. Using any of my other headphones makes me feel like I’m listening to music with a sheet over my ears or something.That being said, I did just order some Focal Clear Mg headphones. I’ll be back in a while to update this again.Update #2-I’ve now owned these headphones for almost two years, and they’re still my favorite for everything overall.I’ve since obtained: Focal Clear Mgs, and Hifiman Arya Stealths. I still prefer the dt1990. The way the produce the music I listen to (i.e. rap, hip-hop, EDM) is overall more exciting and fulfilling to my ears.Of course, the Hifiman Arya has bass that demolishes everything. I mean, it’s just so good. It’s not something I can explain really. It’s just very… weighty? Meaty? Not sure how to phrase it, but it’s nice. The Focal Clear Mg were a surprise to me. I found them to be a little brighter than I was led to believe from reviews I had watched on them. I get why people say they are close to HD650. The midrange is just as magical on the Clear Mg. My main problem with both the Mg and the Arya Stealth was the comfort. They just aren’t comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The headband on the Clear SUCKS. It’s brutally stiff and poorly padded. You can buy one of those ugly headband cover things, sure. But, that kind of defeats the purpose of wearing such an art piece. The Stealth were just fairly heavy, and the long pads irritated my beard.Overall, I think I’m done with my headphone search. The DT1990 have treated me well and have always done what have been asked of them. Good Bass. Good mids. Good treble, perhaps a little spicy but nothing is perfect. The comfort is fantastic (after break-in). They just do the most right and they’ve managed to beat two kilobuck headphones for me.S tier headphones all day.P.S.- forgot to add I also bought Audio-Technica ATH R70x headphones. Meh. Underwhelming in just about every way to me, and the comfort was weird because the pads were very small in diameter and depth. Nor did they swivel up or down. Odd headphones for sure.
