Description

From the manufacturer

The reference-class MDX2600 is a marvelous dual-channel Expander/Gate/Compressor/Peak Limiter that is ideal for: compressing mono/stereo signals and providing virtually inaudible noise suppression, without loss of high frequencies; increasing vocal presence and energy; and limiting, or smoothing out extremely-high signal peaks. Additionally, the MDX2600 features an integrated Dynamic Enhancer, De-Esser, Low-Contour filter and our revolutionary, switchable Tube simulation – for the extra warmth and transparency of classic tube circuitry. Put simply, the MDX2600 can do amazing things for your vocals or instruments – providing virtually everything you need for studio-quality dynamics processing!

Revolutionary Tube Simulation

The secret behind the COMPOSER PRO-XL MDX2600’s incredible sound is our Tube Modeling processor, which exudes the very essence of tube and compression. This amazing circuitry accurately emulates the performance characteristics of highly sought-after classic tube compressors, creating a sound that is so rich in harmonic content – you’ll wonder where we hid the tubes!

Options Abound

The MDX2600 features amazingly-accurate 12-segment LED meters for In/Out Level and Gain Reduction, switchable +4 dBu or -10 dBV operating level, Side Chain I/O, and servo-balanced XLR and 1/4″ Inputs and Outputs. Best of all, the COMPOSER PRO-XL MDX2600 takes up just a single rackspace.

Sound Value

The incredible MDX2600 is the ideal solution for becoming the master of your dynamics. With its flexible routing options, all the I/O you could ask for, plus a host of other professional features – the MDX2600 is an exceptional tool for your live shows – and an absolute “must-have” for your studio! Audio Dynamics Toolkit

These are just a few of the MDX2600’s outstanding capabilities:

  1. Switchable IKA (Interactive Knee Adaptation) – provides program-adaptive compression, combining all the advantages of both hard and soft-knee compression
  2. IGC (Interactive Gain Control) – combines clipper and program limiter for reliable, inaudible protection against signal peaks
  3. Enhancer – lets you emphasize the Bass, Midrange and Hi output at selectable frequencies for maximum punch, clarity and detail – without raising overall volume
  4. Tube Simulation – provides the extra warmth and transparency of classic tube circuitry, creating a sound rich in harmonic content
  5. De-Esser – “must-have” tool with switchable male/female voice recognition for reducing sibilance, while preserving natural voice timbre.
  6. Side Chain – allows insertion of graphic/parametric EQ to reduce specific frequencies – also often used to “tighten up” tracks using an internal or external signal to trigger compression, or gating of signal being processed.

5 reviews for Behringer MDX2600 V2 Reference-Class 2-Channel Expander/Gate/Compressor/Peak Limiter with Integrated De-Esser, Dynamic Enhancer and Tube Simulation

  1. Seb

Fantastic value. A blessing for noisy recording environments.
Bought gear to live-stream live interviews with phone-ins. First got a X1204USB mixer, and a NW-800 condenser Mic. Quickly realized that my noisy fridge in the adjacent kitchen made for a less-than-stellar recording environment which needed some horse medicine.I acquired a XM8500 dynamic Mic, the Mic2200 pre and MDX2600 gate/comp/de-ess unit. It took me about 10 minutes to adjust everything to absolute whisper quiet perfection. No DAW post-editing required: No hiss or background noise. My audio is squeaky clean.Notes:- My use and opinion is relevant only for spoken word.- Musicians may have different results and opinions about it.- My MDX2600 (and Mic2200 pre) are both on a Furman M-8x² power conditioner, and nothing else is plugged in there to avoid any ground loops or line noise.- To avoid picking EM/RF interference, I’ve cabled-up using XLR cables on all links.- You do need a preamp to use the MDX2600, and an XLR-to-computer interface.- For some mixers, not all, it might be possible to preamp on a bus, send to MDX2600 and return to another bus, but there are potential details and caveats which could destroy your gear. Don’t do it if you don’t know what your doing, specially if your running phantom power.- Don’t use unbalanced cables/ports with this unit.My conclusion:I’m overjoyed at the results I’ve achieved with this thing. I thought my situation was a basket-case. Well the MDX2600 proved itself worthy of the job. I no longer need to process my audio in a DAW. It is now decent enough for live broadcasting. Even after acquiring a separate twin preamp (Mic2200) to run this unit, for the price of a single channel DBX286s, the Behringer combo yields me 2 channels with De-ess. So half the price per channel, and it gets the job done.

  2. D. Middleton

It’s well priced and made with great quality
Just like above a great quality piece yet well priced

  3. Casey

    Good budget compressor.
Bought this for my mic for streaming because I needed my vocals to stand out a bit, and running the audio fx through my DAW was not an option. Works perfectly, and sounds great with my TLM 103

  4. Andrew

It made the sound I recorded much more better
I’m not a very tech guy but I do record and another sound guy recommended it. After trying it out I noticed a difference in the sound quality and I usually don’t notice these things. I couldn’t explain why it works but it seemed to make the audio more clear and sound professional when I listen to recording

  5. Bob K4TAX

Does the job that needs doing.
Installed this unit in a church PA system. It solves the issue of the preacher going from a whisper to a full shout while still allowing a degree of dynamic range. Does not add noticeable artifacts to the sound, no pumping or breathing. It takes a bit of time to “learn” the system and make the proper adjustments to attain the best performance.Good value for the money.
