A real analog console with the routing of a big studio desk, built around your DAW. The Wolff Audio Console ST-40 is a 40-channel version of Paul Wolff’s Console ST, with true flying-fader analog automation. It is made for studios that track and mix in a pure analog or hybrid DAW setup and want console sound, hands-on control and room to grow.
Why customers choose it
- Routing flexibility: each 802A input channel has 3 summable inputs, 3 stereo mix buses, 8 sends (2 mono + 1 stereo with 3 assignable buses) and an insert with blend. All key points are on DB25 connectors.
- Tracking and mixing in one desk: DAW Mode works like a classic inline console – the large fader sets the DAW return, the small fader sets the tracking level – and you switch between tracking and mixing without repatching.
- More inputs at mixdown: in Summing Mode each channel takes 4 inputs.
- Choose your console colour: 3 tone-card slots on the mix buses, each with multi-stage amplification and transformer coupling – CAPI op-amps with Litz transformers (classic American), clean IC summing (modern British) or Tonelux op-amps and transformers (vintage British).
- Build your own channel strip: integrated 500 Series slots take Wolff or third-party preamps, EQs and compressors; buckets can even be mounted remotely in a rack.
- Flying-fader automation: fully analog automation with 100 mm motorised faders, mute automation (THD Labs), relative and absolute modes and solo-in-place. The faders also work as DAW controllers with supported software.
Who it is for
Large commercial studios, film and orchestral mixing rooms and facilities that need very high input counts at mixdown. Paul Wolff ran API, invented the 500 Series lunchbox and founded Tonelux and Fix Audio Designs; Console ST brings that experience into one desk.

Good to know
- Console ST is modular and built to order. Talk to us before ordering to confirm the exact modules, metering and layout you want.
- Mic preamps, dynamics and extra EQ come as 500 Series modules – Wolff W1, RefPre, Tutti and FREQ all fit.
- A large console needs a proper desk space, power and patching plan; a Wolff ProPatch can handle the patching in software.
FAQ
Can I use it with my DAW?
Yes. DAW Mode is made for hybrid work: track through the small fader path and monitor DAW returns on the large faders, and the motorised faders can also act as a DAW controller with supported software.
Can I change the sound of the mix bus?
Yes. The tone cards on the mix buses are swappable, so you can choose classic American, clean modern British or vintage British character.
