About this item

Experience unmatched versatility with a microphone that authentically captures both vintage warmth and modern clarity. Featuring a custom 34 mm dual-diaphragm brass capsule with 24 k gold sputtered Mylar, the UT Twin87 delivers precise sound reproduction across cardioid, omni, and figure-of-8 patterns. Explore its twin-circuit design for seamless switching between classic and contemporary tonalities.

Achieve studio-grade vocal and instrument recordings with a microphone engineered to replicate the legendary “87-style” sound in two distinct circuits. The UT Twin87’s unique twin-circuit architecture allows instant toggling between vintage and modern modes, giving sound professionals unprecedented tonal flexibility.

Traditional microphones force a choice between warm, forgiving character and bright, articulate clarity. The UT Twin87 eliminates this compromise. In Vintage mode, the capsule is polarized directly via phantom power using an insulated dual backplate design, recreating the classic softer sound profile. In Modern mode, an internal FET oscillator raises polarization voltage to 63 volts, increasing capsule sensitivity and enhancing brightness and detail.

At the heart of this microphone lies a custom-made UT Series capsule precisely milled from solid brass and skinned with a 6 micron, 24 k gold sputtered Mylar membrane. This dual-diaphragm, dual backplate K87 design ensures exceptional transient response and ultra-low distortion at sound pressure levels up to 117 dB (127 dB with pad), making it suitable for dynamic vocal performances and loud instruments alike.

Frequency response spans 20 Hz to 20 kHz, capturing every nuance from deep bass to shimmering highs.
Three polar patterns (cardioid, omni, figure-of-8) expand recording options, with a true-cardioid mode delivering increased signal-to-noise ratio and purity by disengaging pattern circuitry.
Self-noise under 10 dB ensures clean recordings free from unwanted hiss, even without engaging the high-pass filter or pad.
Custom-wound, large-core UT Series output transformer manufactured in the USA provides open, three-dimensional sound with superior low-frequency response and high headroom, preventing signal bottlenecks over long cable runs.
Nickel electroplated, solid milled brass body offers robust durability and electromagnetic shielding for reliable performance in demanding studio environments.
Included suspension-type shockmount and vintage-style pouch protect the microphone and reduce handling noise for pristine captures.
24 k gold plated XLR connector ensures optimal signal integrity with pin 2 hot and pin 1 ground wiring.

Measuring 220 mm in height and 55 mm in diameter, the UT Twin87 integrates seamlessly into professional studio setups. Its 48 V phantom power compatibility and selectable -10 dB pad and 80 Hz high-pass filter enhance usability with various preamps and recording scenarios.

Designed for engineers who demand absolute authenticity and flexibility, the UT Twin87 is more than a microphone—it is a precise tool that delivers the full spectrum of the iconic “87-style” sound, from its earliest warm vintage tones to its modern crisp articulation. Its detailed engineering, premium materials, and innovative twin-circuit topology set a new standard in large-diaphragm condenser microphones.
