Tough it out and you will be rewarded.
Firstly, this guitar is kind of like a child prodigy that doesn’t want to listen to its parents. It sounds amazing, and the pickup position between middle and bridge is nothing short of sonically miraculous. It truly rings like a bell through a tube amp, my action is always kept extremely low (and there’s never a buzz problem), and it just looks drop-dead gorgeous. However, if you are someone who sweats profusely on regular basis, you might find that the gloss back of the neck can get a little ‘sticky’ from time to time.

    Best “off-the-rack” Strat I’ve encountered
I’m a long-time guitar player and was a Fender dealer for 20 years. I knew of the Eric Johnson model but only recently took time to study the details of the build and read a fair amount of owner comments. I have been searching for a guitar very much like this for several years, and seeing that this model seemed to fit all my requirements I decided to order one and try it out. Right out of the box the guitar just seemed right. It is well balanced, lightweight (my example weighs exactly 7 lbs), very resonant, appears to be made from high grade materials and components, with flawless workmanship and finish. The factory setup was perfectly playable, although after a few minutes with my hex key I was able to dial in my personally preferred action. This guitar sounds and feels amazing, amplified or unplugged. Eric Johnson has done guitar players a huge favor by insisting on this level of quality from Fender. This guitar is easily as nice as just about anything I’ve ever played from Fender’s Custom Shop, or from other high-end builders. It is not cheap, but it is very fairly priced at under $2000. A keeper!
